I grew up in Hong Kong, and my family wasn’t particularly wealthy, but my parents instilled in me the importance of education from a young age. I remember in school, there was a particular maths teacher who not only imparted knowledge but also showed genuine concern for my development, igniting my passion for learning. Later on, I started tutoring younger children, initially just intending to give back to society with my time.

There are several reasons why I tutor without charge. First, I see some families struggling financially who may not be able to afford a tutor, and I want to do my part to help them. Whenever a student learns something new or achieves good results, I feel incredibly happy; this sense of fulfilment drives me even more.

Additionally, I learn a great deal through the teaching process. When I help explain concepts, I engage in deeper thinking and discover details I previously overlooked. This interaction makes me feel that my growth extends beyond just the textbooks.

Some friends have asked, “Why don’t you charge?” but I believe that education shouldn’t merely be a transaction. I hope to create a supportive environment where every student can express their thoughts freely without the burden of financial concerns. For me, being a small part of their learning journey is truly an honour!
